Sussman House is a Federally funded, elderly/disabled development consisting of 100 units of which 97 units are one-bedrooms, one of which is a wheelchair accessible, and 3 are two-bedrooms apartments, all of which are wheelchair accessible. The building is a high rise, elevator-equipped apartment building located at 50 Pleasant Street. The Manager's office is located on the first floor.
Brookline Housing Authority has partnered with Springwell, our regional social service agency, to bring the CareConnection Program to the Sussman House (the Sussman House is presently one of two elderly/disabled building to have the CareConnection Program - O'Shea House is the other). The CareConnections Program offers a care coordinator at the building for 20 hours a week to assist residents so that they may remain independent in their homes. The care coordinator's office is located on the first floor.
The development is wonderfully situatated just blocks away from Cleveland Circle, Beacon and Harvard Streets, places of worship, the Stop and Shop, Trader Joe's and many stores and restaurants. The Town of Brookline's Pleasant Street library is directly across the street. The Green Line's "C", Beacon Street, trolley stop is two blocks away as is the #66 bus stop (whose route is between Harvard Square and Dudley Station). In the development itself there is a kitchen, community room with computer, television and library area, the Careconnection Program office, and assigned parking. It is also on the Elderbus route.
