Resident Services Programs and Information

Women and Girls Thriving in Brookline brings together 50 organizations and over 160 citizens, including more than 80 women and girls with limited incomes, by using what is known as a “Collective Impact” framework, an approach that is both inclusive and collaborative. They offer a wide variety of programming, including workshops on arts, healing, mental health, nutrition, exercise, gardening, and more!

The Thrive Guide is an easy-to-use, comprehensive list of local organizations and resources helping both service providers and Brookline residents find the right organization for their needs.

Quickly and easily, people can connect to dozens of area services which provide aid in staying healthy, giving support, assisting with housing, job training, emergency services, and more.

The Brookline Center - 617-277-8107

The Brookline Center for Community Mental Health provides outstanding, affordable mental health care and community-based social services that help individuals and families lead healthier, safer, and fuller lives. The Center partners with the Town of Brookline, as well as dozens of local community partners, to fill unmet needs, coordinate services, and create a safety net of support. Residents needing funds for urgent needs can make a request to the Town’s Safety Net program administered by The Brookline Center.

Brookline ESOL Program - 617-413-4186

Free and low-cost English language instruction for low-income adults who reside or work in Brookline. Classes and conversation groups are offered at beginning through intermediate levels in the day and evening at several BHA community sites. Contact Danielle Mendola at

The Brookline food pantry is available to all Brookline residents. Shoppers may shop one time every two weeks and will be guided through the food pantry by volunteer workers. BHA residents do not need to provide income verification.

Family Computer Learning Centers

Each family housing site has its own Family Learning Center (FLC) - a walk-in computer lab, free of charge to all BHA residents offering drop-in hours for adult residents and homework support to school-age children.

Most elderly/disabled housing sites have mini-labs (one to two computers) in the community room, which are available for resident use 24/7.

For more information contact: Lisa Brown 617-566-8795.

Next Steps Program - 617-566-6011
Next Steps helps adults to write or revise resumes, find employment, and pursue continuing education opportunities including GED, certificate programs, two- and four-year colleges and job/skills training. Our staff person, Grace Watson,, has helped many residents towards a better life - give her a call.

Grace's office is located in the Trustman Apartments' Computer Learning Center.

The Brookline Parent-Child Home Program is a two-year home visiting, risk prevention program for low-to-moderate income families with young children living in Brookline. The focus of PCHP is to prepare young children to enter school “ready to learn.”

Home visitors meet with PCHP families for 30 minute sessions twice weekly for a two year period. All visits take place in the home environment and are scheduled at a time that is mutually convenient to the family and home visitor, so that moms and dads who are working, in school, or in a training program can participate.

PCHP offers two playgroups for children 18 months to 4 years at the 22 High and Egmont St. developments. All programming is free.

Service Coordination for Families

Service coordinators are here to help you access many resources for your family. For Egmont/Trustman residents, you can contact Julia Blencowe at 617-735-6870 or at

Springwell is a non-profit organization that serves seniors, people with disabilities, and their caregivers. Case managers are available onsite at BHA elderly/disabled housing developments.

Steps to Success - 617-879-4638

Steps to Success (STS) is a comprehensive educational achievement program providing academic, social development and family support for low-income students and their families. Working with students in Grades 4-12, the program seeks to break through the attitudes and substantive barriers -both personal & institutional - that can make it difficult for students to succeed in school and pursue a college education.

STS addresses these barriers by establishing programs of:

  • Academic enrichment and mentoring;

  • Work connections for youth;

  • Early college awareness & readiness;

  • Family support services.

If your child is not in this program, please call Steps to Success today and put her/him on to the road towards success.
